PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONIC TECHNOLOGY (PAUT), TOFD
PHASE ARRAY ULTRASONIC TESTING (PAUT) IN LIEU OF RADIOGRAPHY
The Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) technologies are rapidly replacing conventional radiography, especially for boiler tubes weld inspection. A major advantage in replacing RT with PAUT and TOFD is reducing the radiation risks apart from increased probability of detection (POD), production rate and better sizing of the discontinuities. Also, ASME Code Case 2235 allows for the substitution of Phased Array (PAUT) Time of flight diffraction (TOFD) in lieu of radiography for the examination of heavy wall pressure vessel welds. Nozzles in accordance with ASME Section I, para.PW-11; Section VIII Division 1, para.UW-11 (a); Section VIII Division 2, Table AF-241.1.
ACS uses Olympus MX2 in performing boiler tube and pressure vessel welds inspection.
APPLICATIONS
- Inspection of welds
- Thickness measurements
- Corrosion inspection
- Flaw detection
- Rolling stock inspection (wheels and axles)
